where is it better to post sketches?

"It depends..." Art is anarchy. If you think it looks good, you should share it. If it gets abysmal ratings, then others did not share your optimism. ;)
As @thepixelizer already said, you can remove the checkmark on "Finished Piece?" when you upload art to share sketches.
Alternatively you can share sketches in blog posts when you want to showcase certain parts of your process in greater detail and/or talk about a piece with your fans - rather than receive one-off reviews which aren't well suited for longer back-and-forth conversations.

You can post it the same way you do regular art just make sure the this is not a sketch, include in the art portal check box has no check mark. Then your art will only appear in your art gallery but not in the portal.
